Plastic additives hold the key to recycling

Plastic products find a wide range of applications in our daily life. However, being non-biodegradable, plastics also form a huge chunk of household trash, raising serious concern amongst most environment -conscious people.

While the research is on for finding better alternatives for plastics, following the philosophy of Reduce-Reuse-Recycle can go a long way in ensuring a better environment.

Reducing the use of plastics by using biodegradable materials like paper or cloth, and reusing plastic articles are probably the easier parts of the plastic recycling chain.

On our part, we must ensure that:
  1. the plastic articles like bottles or cartons are completely empty before discarding them
  2. plastic articles should be crushed and compacted before discarding
  3. dispose off the plastic articles according to their grades (generally mentioned on the containers.)
The tough part starts with recycling.
It is a complex process and involves several energy consuming steps like sorting plastic trash according to grades, washing, shredding it to uniform size and finally, extruding into recycled pellets, which are then used to make new products.

However, the recycled plastic still has poorer strength, compared to the virgin plastic. Further, the moisture present in recycled plastic, creates severe surface defects in the end products made from recycled plastics.

The plastic recyclers are now turning towards high quality plastic additives such as RecycloAid, which improve dispersion of polymers and remove moisture, for enhancing the quality of products manufactured from recycled plastics.
